Farid MOUISSI, APSSES Laboratory, University of Chlef

Background: Increasingly prevalent among university students, academic burnout often manifests as emotional fatigue, pessimism, and diminished academic performance. This investigation delves into the potential of physical activity as a non-pharmacological remedy to alleviate academic burnout.

Methods: Using a descriptive-analytical framework, the study involved 120 students from diverse academic disciplines in Algeria. Burnout levels were measured using the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) both prior to and following a structured physical exercise regimen. The intervention encompassed aerobic workouts, team sports, and personalized training conducted over a specific duration.

Results: Participants who regularly engaged in physical exercise exhibited a noteworthy decrease in emotional fatigue and pessimism, alongside enhanced academic performance, compared to their sedentary counterparts. The various forms of physical activity demonstrated positive outcomes in boosting psychological wellness and academic resilience.

Conclusion: Structured exercise programs present a viable, cost-effective, and non-medical solution for mitigating academic burnout. These findings advocate for the inclusion of sports and exercise initiatives within university settings to promote student mental health and academic achievement.
